School Board Candidate Petition Packets for the term beginning July 1, 2017 are now available. Voters will elect three members of the Board, each for three-year terms, to succeed David Fenlong, whose term expires on June 30, 2017; Clark Porter, whose term expires on June 30, 2017; and Jeremy Bartholomew, whose term expires on June 30, 2017. Packets may be picked up from the District Clerk in the Superintendent’s Office.
Petitions must have a minimum of 25 signatures and must be returned to the District Clerk by April 17, 2017.
School Board candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, qualified voters in the school district and able to read and write. They must be residents of their districts continuously for one year before the election. They cannot be employed by the board on which they will serve or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board. Once elected, the candidate is required by New York State law to fulfill mandatory training within the first year of service. This includes fiscal oversight training and governance skills training.
The election will be held May 16, 2017.

The student senate held it's second annual Amazing Race - Gouverneur Edition from March 1st - March 3rd. Teams of 3 compete against each other challenged with academic, team work and scavenger hunt tasks. This year, 6 teams competed against each other for the chance to win $300, $150, and $75 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively.

Carter Baer Win

Congratulations to Carter Baer for being selected as the 95.3 and Dashnaw’s Pizzeria Wildcat Athlete of the Week for the week of February 27th. GCSD would like to recognize Carter as a 7th grade Varsity Wrestling athlete with his 2nd time in the Winter Sports Season winning this honor. Carter placed 6th at the New York State Wrestling Championships last weekend in Albany. He is the first Gouverneur wrestler to place in the NYS Wrestling Championships as a 7th grader. In fact he is the first Section 10 wrestler ever to place in the tournament as a 7th grader. Carter finished his 1st year of Varsity wrestling with 34 wins and 6 losses. Congratulations Carter.
Madison Walker

Congratulations to Madison Walker for being selected as the 95.3 and Dashnaw’s Pizzeria Wildcat Athlete of the Week for the week of February 13th. GSCD would like to recognize Madison Walker as a Junior that has participated in Football Cheer and is in Basketball/Competitive Cheer. Madison is acknowledged for her hard work and determination in flying, learning new stunts and pushing herself to be her best. Madison has a positive approach to her work ethic and has a good sportsmanship attitude toward all her team mates.

Congratulations to Tyler Tupper for being selected as the 95.3 and Dashnaw’s Pizzeria Wildcat Athlete of the Week for the week of February 6th. GSCD would like to recognize Tyler Tupper as a freshman this school year that is a three season athlete as the Athlete of the Week. Tyler was 3-0 at the wrestling duals against Malone, OFA and Massena. Tyler upset a more experienced OFA wrestler with 8-6, which proved to be the meet's most exciting match and the biggest win of Tyler's varsity career. Congratulations Tyler.
